Ironically, “above the fold” is a term taken from the newspaper’s design. If the elements of your website are “above the fold”, people should not scroll down to see them.

As in newspaper design, most designers put the most important information above the fold. This term has lost much relevance in modern web design, however, because the “fold” is almost never in the same place because of different screen sizes and resolutions.
